Students Creating and Curating at Harvard

While the Harvard Art Museums wait to reveal our new galleries in the fall of 2014, there is a vibrant arts community at Harvard University waiting to be discovered. Nestled in Harvard Houses and quiet streets just outside the yard are spaces to encounter art that is made, curated, and presented by students. Here are just a few. You can find out more details about each space's offerings by clicking through to their websites, linked below. 

Arts @ 29 Garden Corner of Garden and Chauncy Streets, Cambridge This organization is a curricular art space offering classrooms and art-making space to students, faculty, and visiting artists seeking a venue for collaboration and experimentation. This fall Kalup Linzy (Visiting Professor/Artist in Visual and Environmental Studies) and Thet Sambath (Scholar at Risk and filmmaker) join Arts @ 29 Garden as artists-in-residence.

ARTSpace 26 Plympton Street, Cambridge This Adams House art space touts two large galleries for exhibiting student work as well as a working studio for residents to explore their creativity.

Harvard Monday Gallery 6–8 Linden Street, Cambridge Curated and presented by students in the Visual and Environmental Studies (VES) program, this space features exhibitions of original artworks from Harvard undergraduates.

Sandra Naddaff and Leigh Hafrey Three Columns Gallery 10 Cowperthwaite Street, Cambridge Located in Mather House, this gallery shows approximately four to five exhibitions a year, with a mix of both student and professional artists. Open to the public on Tuesday evenings from 5 to7pm, October 17 through December 11, 2013. Currently on view: Jim Condron’s Three Columns in a Notebook.

Third Space 51 Shepard Street, Cambridge This newly opened student-run art studio offers classes and other events for students interested in painting, drawing, ceramics, jewelry, and more.

Welcome to the Harvard Art Museums! We are three museums—the Fogg, Busch-Reisinger, and Arthur M. Sackler—all in one building. Have fun exploring our galleries; just ask any staff member for help finding your way.
