Museum Access
The Harvard Art Museums are accessible to visitors who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Visitors with mobility needs are encouraged to use the entrances located on Prescott Street and Broadway. Both entrances have nearby curb cuts. Visitors arriving via paratransit van or similar are recommended to use the entrance on Broadway, which allows a right-side exit from the vehicle.
Please note that the entrance located on Quincy Street provides a stair-free option without handrails or nearby curb cuts.
A limited number of wheelchairs are available for loan in the lobby free of charge. Wheelchair-accessible seating and assistive-listening devices are available in our lecture halls. Large text (18-point font) Visitor Guides are available in print and via iPads on loan from our Admissions desk for visitors with low vision. We also offer handheld magnifiers. For privacy, an accessible, single-occupancy bathroom is located on Level 2.
We welcome service animals only. Visit https://accessibility.harvard.edu/service-and-assistance-animals for more information.
Accessible parking is available (pre-purchase required) in the Broadway Garage, located at 5 Felton Street. (Please note that the garage has a 6 ft. 8 in. height limit.) Parking permits can be purchased online and must be printed and presented to the parking attendant upon arrival. When asked to select the department from a drop-down menu, select Museum Visitor—Art Museums. The department code is 9071.
The Harvard Art Museums provide free and unlimited visual interpreting services for people with visual impairments. Aira is an app that connects people who are blind or low vision to professional visual interpreters for secure access to visual information. Live interpreters can support museum guests by providing verbal descriptions of artworks, reading exhibition text, and assisting with navigation within the galleries. To access the service, visitors must download the free Aira Explorer App onto their smartphone or tablet and follow the prompts to connect with an agent.
Sign language interpretation may be available upon request; please contact Visitor Services at least two weeks prior to the program.
