Academic and Public Programs

Part of the great university and the community that surround us, the Harvard Art Museums provide powerful opportunities for learning, teaching, and research with original works of art. We welcome neighbors and visitors to experience our collections and programming.

Public programs—including lectures, seminars, performances, workshops, and films—are offered throughout the museums, in spaces such as the Art Study Center, Calderwood Courtyard, Materials Lab, and Menschel Hall. Visitors can learn more about exhibitions, programs, and events on our calendar and are encouraged to sign up for our newsletter to stay connected about news and upcoming events.

The museums also collaborate with teachers at the city’s sole public high school, Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS), located just one block away, through our Graduate Student Teacher program. Students from the Harvard Graduate School of Education work with CRLS teachers and museums staff to teach high school classes in the collections galleries. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Visitors are invited to explore the galleries independently, with a student guide, or by using a digital tool. They can discover in-depth stories about collections, exhibitions, conservation projects, programs, and more through Index, the museums’ digital magazine.
