HAA132e The Ideal of the Everyday in Greek Art (S427) Spring 2012
This installation accompanies a seminar that presents Greek painted pottery as a direct window onto ancient Greek society and how this society visually constructed its ideal self. The vases included in this installation bear images of banqueting, domestic activities, athletic and poetic performances, cult practice, war, and death. The seminar is taught by Ruth Bielfeldt, Assistant Professor of History of Art and Architecture; and Susanne Ebbinghaus, George M. A. Hanfmann Curator of Ancient Art and Head, Division of Asian and Mediterranean Art.
The installation is made possible by funding from the Gurel Student Exhibition Fund.
Teaching Gallery installations are mounted in conjunction with Harvard University undergraduate courses and feature selected objects from the Harvard Art Museums’ collections.
