La Belle Epoque: Debussy and Ravel at the Harvard Art Museums

Please join us for an afternoon in the light-filled Calderwood Courtyard to experience chamber music performances inspired by late 19th- and early 20th-century paintings in the museums’ collections. Cellist Guy Fishman, violinist Renée Hemsing, and pianist Renana Gutman will perform sonatas by Claude Debussy and a piano trio by Maurice Ravel.

Before and after the concert, guests are invited to visit the galleries to see the artwork linked to each piece of music.

The schedule of performances is as follows:

2–2:20pm
Sonata for Cello and Piano, L. 135 (1915), by Claude Debussy (1862–1918)

2:30–2:50pm
Sonata for Violin and Piano in G Minor, L. 140 (1917), by Debussy

3–3:20pm
Piano Trio for Piano, Violin, and Cello in A Minor (1914), by Maurice Ravel (1875–1937)

Free and open to everyone, but seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Presented in collaboration with Crescendo Productions, which activates historic and storied locations by forging collaborations between cultural sites and artists, musicians, and actors to create meaningful and mission-driven programming and events.
