Images acquired for study purposes may not be reproduced without a separate written agreement from the Harvard Art Museums.

The Harvard Art Museums does not charge a fee for the use of our images.

Newark: Housing Conditions in Newark, New Jersey: The health and safety of the inhabitants of a municipality may be menaced by laxness of neighboring communities. The photograph at the left shows a group of highly combustible wooden buildings just outside the boundaries of Newark. A conflagration starting in these buildings would probably spread into Newark.
