Landmarks of World Art and Architecture

This installation complements an undergraduate introductory course that examines major works and the unique aesthetic, cultural, and historical issues that frame them. Members of the faculty lecture on outstanding examples within their areas of expertise, covering various media and drawing upon diverse cultures ranging from ancient Egypt to Renaissance Europe, the modern United States and Africa, and the contemporary world. Sections focus on significant issues in the analysis and interpretation of art and architecture. The course is taught by Suzanne P. Blier, Allen Whitehill Clowes Professor of Fine Arts and Professor of African and African American Studies, Harvard University.

Teaching gallery installations are mounted in conjunction with Harvard University undergraduate and graduate courses and feature selected objects from the Harvard Art Museums collections.
