Virtual Student Guide Tour: Nostos and Nostalgia, with Laura Murphy

In this photomontage, a smiling young woman in a pink sweater and a white shirt stands in front of a clapboard-sided house pointing toward what appear to be several colorful fans floating in the air. Each fan is ornately decorated with various nature scenes with flowers.
Laura Murphy will discuss a group of fans painted by Suzuki Kiitsu on her tour. Photomontage by Alexis Boo ’22.

Laura Murphy ’22 will delve into ideas of home, memory, and longing in this journey through the collections. She will look at a few works that evoke the natural beauty of a pre-industrial era, including Claude Monet’s painting Red Boats, Argenteuil, a Tiffany vase, and a group of fans from Edo period Japan painted by Suzuki Kiitsu.
