Virtual Student Guide Tour: Design by Decay, with Mei Tercek

In this comical photomontage, a young woman in a black sweater stands in front of a white wall and a white door. In her right hand, she appears to be balancing a gray, stone sculpture of the figure of a woman. The figure is wearing a dress, and its head, hands, and feet are broken off.
One of the works Mei Tercek will discuss is The Standing Buddha (7th–8th century). Photomontage courtesy of Alexis Boo ’22.

Tour

Mei Tercek ’21 explores works that are shaped by decay and generated through destruction. This interactive tour looks closely at the beauty that remains in the wake of decay in the Thai sculpture The Standing Buddha (7th–8th century), the bronze Daphne (1930) by sculptor Renée Sintenis, and the painting Legno e Rosso 3 (1956) by Alberto Burri.

This interactive tour will take place online via Zoom. To join, click the following link: https://harvard.zoom.us/j/95106770602 (free admission; no pre-registration required).

This program is supported by the Ho Family Student Guide Fund.

The Ho Family Student Guide Program at the Harvard Art Museums trains students to develop original, research-based tours of the collections. These tours, designed and led by Harvard undergraduates from a range of academic disciplines, focus on objects chosen by each Student Guide and offer a unique, thematic view into the collections.
