Partners Event (Online): Using AI to Help Recover Stolen Coins
Supporter Event
OnlineThis event requires registration; see further details below.
In 1973, a portion of the coins kept in the Coin Room of the Harvard Art Museums was stolen in an orchestrated art theft, widely publicized at the time. Most of the coins were recovered in the following years, thanks to the hard work and dedication of a team of FBI agents, museum staff, Harvard students, and external consultants. However, hundreds of coins are still missing. For the past year, the museums have been working on a collaborative project mixing archival research and computer science to try to locate the missing coins and return them to the collections. Join coins curator Laure Marest to hear more about this exciting project.
Partners events are designed especially for our supporters at this level, offering gallery tours, close-looking sessions, and other special programs led by curators, fellows, and other specialists.
