Peter Murphy is an art historian, curator, and critic, specializing in modern, contemporary, and queer art history. His major curatorial projects at the Harvard Art Museums include Made in Germany? Art and Identity in a Global Nation (Fall 2024, co-curated with Lynette Roth), Katharina Sieverding: Transformer (Fall 2024, curator), and Edvard Munch: Technically Speaking (Spring 2025, co-curated with Lynette Roth and Elizabeth Rudy). Murphy’s current curatorial research focuses on the intersections of disability and economic crises in modern and contemporary German art. His book project, tentatively titled Queer Figures, traces the relationship between queerness and figuration in European and North American painting from the early 20th century to the present.
