Descriptions

Commentary
Inscriptions refer to works by John Linnell (1792-1882), J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851), who died in Cheyne Walk, London, Francisco de Zurbarán (1598-1664). The Ormonds note that Leighton had his own system for indicating the quality of old master paintings he saw. It's possible that the "v's" and "1's" along the left margin of this page are part of that system.
