The painting is constructed of loose, suggestive brushstrokes. Two light skinned men are standing side by side, visible above the hip. The man at left is clothed in black. His back to the viewer, he looks up and slightly to the right with his mouth open and hands raised. Gray hair is visible beneath a small black hat. The man at right wears a light cream covering that drapes slightly at his sides. His arms are crossed and, with a neutral expression, he turns his head toward the other man. Their bodies fill the frame against a plain brown backdrop.
