The drawing on the verso is made in a vertical orientation.
Commentary
The doorway on the verso is probably, as indicated by the inscription, Brockett's boarding house in Kaaterskill Clove. See Ila Weiss, "Poetic Landscape: the Art and Experience of Sanford R. Gifford," Newark, 1987, p. 90.
