This exhibition examines the history and conception of the new Fogg Art Museum (opened June 1927) as the first purpose-built structure in North America for the specialized training of art scholars and critics as well as museum professionals. The exhibition, which presents architectural drawings, fund-raising materials, documentary photographs and works of art collected for Harvard’s new “Fine Arts laboratory,” considers the reinvented Fogg as a built space and as an academic concept, positioning it within the larger context of the invention of art institutions internationally.
