ON DISPLAY HARVARD 2024
Special Event
In-PersonHarvard Art Museums
32 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA
To commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, we invite you to ON DISPLAY HARVARD 2024, a brief, one-hour movement installation in slowness and stillness performed by students and community members in the Calderwood Courtyard.
ON DISPLAY HARVARD is presented by the OFA Dance Program in partnership with Harvard Art Museums and (snobs__), and is in collaboration with ON DISPLAY GLOBAL, a worldwide movement installation and social justice initiative created by physically integrated dance company Heidi Latsky Dance.
Harvard’s Office for the Arts’ (OFA) Dance Program has been an ambassador of the project for the last six years, presenting ON DISPLAY HARVARD at accessible locations across campus as well as virtually each year. The program has created a community of partners and diverse performers to bring awareness of disability justice, art, and culture to Harvard’s campus and beyond.
The performance installation ON DISPLAY HARVARD 2024, which will be on view in the Calderwood Courtyard for one hour, questions societal “norms” about disability and celebrates difference as an affirmation of our humanity. Audience members are invited to wander through the installation at their own pace over the course of the hour and view each performer up close. Performers of the work create sculptural compositions of their own making, on their own terms, and which evolve in real time. The installation allows performers and the public alike to explore what it means to see and be seen, in slowness and silence.
Sighted guides and audio description will be available throughout the duration for blind and visually impaired audiences; a pre-show offering for tactile access with description of wearable art, created by Harvard Graduate School of Design alumni (snobs_), will take place at 11:30am. The Harvard Art Museums building is accessible for visitors using wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
The Harvard Art Museums offer free admission every day, Tuesday through Sunday. Please see the museum visit page to learn about our general policies for visiting the museums.
ON DISPLAY HARVARD 2023 and 2024 are part of Beyond Access: A Celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities at Harvard, a project in partnership with the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) alumni (snobs) and other GSD students. Beyond Access was a winner of a 2023 Culture Lab Innovation Fund (CLIF) grant through the Harvard Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, & Belonging.
If you anticipate needing any additional type of access service, or if you have any questions about attending ON DISPLAY HARVARD 2024, either in person at the Harvard Art Museums or virtually, please email dance@fas.harvard.edu.
