Jars of spices, cooking implements, and colorful paper swatches are set out on a kitchen counter.

This event requires registration; see further details below.

Where do materials and tools that we might find in the kitchen show up in museum galleries? What is art made of, and how does materiality blur lines between the creative spaces of art and food? Join local artist Fatima Seck to consider intersections of food and color in art and to explore painting through the lens of edible materials. In this workshop, we will learn how to make paints using a global pantry of spices and ingredients through age-old techniques. And you will have a chance to create works using our handmade food-based paints to tell personal narratives about our global and individual food cultures.

The hands-on session will take place in the Materials Lab on the Lower Level.

$15 workshop fee. Registration is required and space is limited; registration will open on this form, beginning on Wednesday, December 4, at 10am. Workshop fee must be paid to confirm registration. Minimum age of 14; no previous experience required.
