Karin had come to New York as a child from Hamburg in the 1950s. She came by boat and remembers fearing that the ship would capsize as they entered New York Harbor as everyone on board ran to one side to see the Statue of Liberty. On this day she was making winter hats with donated yarn. She participated in the Fiber Arts Working Group that made garments for the protesters. She spoke about the irony of the wealthiest country in the world denying healthcare to its citizens.
