2018.33.62.9: The Crematoria
PrintsRendered in dark textured ink washes, three men attend to placing corpses into an incinerator in a crematory. In the foreground at right, a shirtless man wearing striped pants and large gloves, holds a pair of tongs, gripping the neck of a naked, emaciated corpse on the ground. At right, another man in striped clothes and large gloves looks at us, as he uses tongs to drag the corpse’s feet. At center right, another man in striped pants stands looking on, holding a long pole with a hooked end. At center, a second corpse lies on a plank, partly inside a vaulted opening in the wall. At upper right the number nine appears.
