2018.33.62.3: Execution of resistance fighters
PrintsRendered in sketched lines and washes of black ink, a gallows is visible at top, while two men in military uniforms work to tie ropes around the necks of two men. The figures’ faces are mostly indistinct, except for the distraught eyes of the prisoner at right. The body of a woman hangs already lifeless at left. In the foreground at right, another officer sits mounted on a horse. He looks calmly toward us, eyes obscured by sunglasses, while his horse pulls back, its mouth open in agitation. A second horse is visible behind it, also with a wild look, as the shadow of its head with open mouth hovers at lower left.
