2018.33.42: Men of Color to Passage
PrintsAt lower center in the foreground, printed in dark brown, two dark skinned men in soldiers’ uniforms face us, holding long rifles at their sides in front of a low picket fence. Three indistinct, transparent figures in dresses appear just behind them. Gathered beyond the fence is a line of figures indicated only by brown outlines on a green background, and sketched in shading in green or brown. Above, at center, a headline from a handbill is superimposed on the scene, reading, “OUR LAST OPPORTUNITY HAS COME/ MEN OF COLOR, BROTHERS AND FATHERS! / WE APPEAL TO YOU!”
