An image of a close group of four dark skinned men is printed in dark brown and dark blue. Within a gate of a low picket fence, they stand facing us, two men holding long rifles at their side, and all wearing identical coats and caps as they gaze back at us. At left and at right, figures gather before houses on the flat plain in the distance beyond. The image of a handbill is superimposed just above the fence at left, printed in dark brown, with a headline reading, “MEN OF COLOR TO ARMS! TO ARMS!” The background is printed in muted green and shaded with hand sketched marks.
