The fragment has a white ground layer, with a taped edge revealing a small area of unpainted canvas. A layer of red paint covers the white ground. The red paint layer has a dry brush edge, which reveals the underlying white layer and runs along the taped edge of the ground. The red paint is both matte and glossy.
