The black and white photograph shows a bearded man in light colored clothing wearing a hat with a brim. His right arm is raised, he holds a machete in his right hand. His left arm is outstretched, and his gloved hand holds a stalk of sugar cane. The man is slightly twisted at the waist. There are stalks of sugar cane on the left side of the photograph and leaves are visible in the bottom foreground.
