Descriptions Description Gedney captures a calm moment in this horizontal format image of a Varanasi street at night. In the right foreground at close range, a rickshaw driver sleeps in his vehicle. Behind him, the street winds up and to the left, revealing a desolate place with shops closed, doors shut, and no pedestrians. This rich, moody image reveals Gedney's interest in night scenes, which he incorporated into several of his bodies of work.
