Description
Small jar with flared mouth, constricted neck, ovoid body, and two strap handles attached from rim to shoulders; reddish buff earthenware. Qijia culture. From the upper Yellow River valley region; Gansu, Qinghai, or Shaanxi province or Inner Mongolia.
Commentary
Compare to:
Jar of the same form but with painted designs excavated in 1976 from a Qijia site in upper Sunjiazhai, Datong county, Qinghai province, now in the Qinghai Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. See Zhongguo taoci quanji (The Complete Works of Chinese Ceramics), vol. 1: Xinshiqi shidai (Neolithic period) (Shanghai: Shanghai renmin meishu chubanshe, 2000), no. 143, pp. 166 and 294.
