Descriptions Commentary Over the last few years, the collection of Netherlandish prints at the Fogg has grown in both size and importance, especially in the area of seventeenth-century landscape prints. However there are few examples of landscape prints by women artists from the period. Landscape was one of the few genre allowable for women artists to practice-it didn't contain the indecorous elements of history or mythological subject matter. Women artists could wander close to home, sketching from nature, and then return to their studios to etch their designs on copperplates. Anna Maria de Koker was one of the more prolific landscape etchers of her time, producing twenty known landscape scenes. This one of cottages alongside a pond demonstrates her skill at capturing the details and ambiance of her surroundings.
