K. Eremin, January 2014Technical Observations: The patina is reddish brown with some black. Green corrosion and light brown encrustations are also present. There is a restoration near the bottom.
The vessel was formed by hammering (raising and sinking) a cast ingot. Because no join is discernible at the juncture of the spout and the body, it is possible that the rough cast was round with an elongated extension for shaping into the spout, and so the spout and body were made in one piece. The handle is a separate piece of hammered sheet metal that was attached to the body with five cotter pins that have hemispherical heads on the exterior. The two lower corner pins have wider strips of metal than the other three.
