Technical Observations: The patina is a mottled light and dark green. A mass of rusty accretions is stuck to the underside of the beak. The surface of the object is worn and smooth but still preserves much detail.

The pendant was cast in one piece by the lost-wax process. The body of the rooster is hollow and was probably originally modeled in wax over a small clay core. The legs were made separately and then attached to the body, as indicated by the sharp transition from one of the legs to the body on the underside of the figure. The wings were modeled from separate wax lumps that were stuck to the side of the body. The many linear, inscribed surface details were probably already fashioned in the wax but then refined in the metal as well.
