Provenance

Recorded Ownership History
Cornelis Ploos van Amstel, (2034 (unmarked)), auction sale, 3 March et seq., Amsterdam, 1800. Sold for 100 florins, probably directly to Frans Rechberger, the curator for Count Moriz von Fries, who signed the print and gave the information on the Ploos sale purchase, including price.
Frans Rechberger, (2133), purchase at Ploos van Amstel sale, 1800. Signed by Rechbergerm curator for Count Moriz von Fries, with information on the Ploss sale.
Count Moriz von Fries, Purchase at Ploos auction sale in March 1800, 1800, Auction sale, Amsterdam, 1824. Sale, 21 June 1824 et seq.
Baron Jan G. Verstolk van Soelen., (2490; see L. 2903), purchase at Moriz von Fries auction sale, 1824. Purchase through Broodgeest. Unmarked.
Julian Marshall, (1494), auction sale, 30 June 1864 et seq., London, 1864. Purchased from Marshall sale for £4.
James Reiss, (1522), auction sale 6-10 May 1901, 1901.
Burke, (2794a). Lugt identifies this as the mark of a collector named Burke, but goes on to associate it with Edmund Burke, whose career was in London in the late 18th c. Given the known provenance of the print in The Netherlands at that time, he seems an unlikely Burke.
