Inscriptions and Marks inscription: former mount, adhered to mat, graphite: In the last century twas in Tuckers cabinet / at Exeter, England / then after 1800 in Warren's / & purchased by me out of the last named / since 1840 / JWR Came by way of Amsterdam / from the collection of the Lord Pensionary at Leyden / perhaps by Asselyn or one of the Van de Velde's watermark: none collector's mark: verso, lower center, purple ink stamp and brown ink: L. 2130 [with accompanying inscription] 479. (John Witt Randall Collection at Harvard College) Provenance Recorded Ownership History Possibly Lord Pensionary, Leiden. Possibly Richard Tucker, Exeter, England. Possibly John Collins Warren, Boston, Massachusetts. John Witt Randall, Boston, Massachusetts, 1840, bequest to Belinda Lull Randall, Boston, Massachusetts, 1892, gift to Fogg Art Museum, 1892. NOTE: The identity of the Lord Pensionary of Leiden remains unknown, there were only four men who held this position from 1700-1780: Joost van Heemskerk (1698-1701); Pieter Marcus (1702-1744); David van Roijen (1749-1753); and Jan Davidsz. van Roijen (1753-1780).
