1965.433: Nobles Worshipping Before a Crucifix
DrawingsDrawn in red chalk, a couple are shown kneeling before an altar with their hands clasped in prayer. Another man makes to kneel behind them. All the worshippers are expensively dressed: the man wears a ruffle and the woman a lace collar. On the altar is a large sculpture of Christ on the crucifix. White gouache highlights the front of the worshippers’ bodies and the long, exposed length of Christ’s side so it appears as if Christ is giving off light.
