1943.1043: Head of Amenophis IV (Akhenaten)
SculptureThis small sculpture of a pharaoh’s head sits on a black stone base. He stares ahead with a somber expression and wears a braided false beard on his chin. On his head is a cloth crown: it is more structured by his brow, and then is more rounded where it lands on his shoulders. Above his brow on the crown is a rearing cobra, but the stone has worn down to where the details of the cobra are vague. The stone for this piece in general has a rough texture from wear, and much of his nose is gone.
