To request a higher resolution file of this image, please submit an online request. Descriptions Description Amethyst, convex oval intaglio. On the dome-side is a Victory holding a trophy. She is in flight and with her body facing right. Partially nude, the figure also wears a light himation that billows around her legs with large folds. Her tiny facial features are carefully rendered including eyes, nose, and delicate mouth. Above her head, Victory holds a trophy in her right arm, which is partially obscured by a break at the top of the gem. Commentary The subject of Nike is fairly common on Hellenistic gems, though she is not as often depicted nude. Publication History G.
