G8909: The Declaration (first plate)
PrintsEnergetic lines depict a well-dressed man and woman on the grassy shore of a lake. The woman wears a long white Victorian dress with a high collar and smiles faintly at a man who kneels on one knee in front of her. Gesturing to her with his left hand, the man wears checked pants and a coat with a dark black collar. A top hat sits on the ground to his right with a cane resting on it, while to his left a large dog with a thin snout calmly sits, looking on. In the distance a small canoe with a lone figure enters the scene from the left.
