Head and shoulder portrait of a man with curly hair wearing a fur hat and wrapped in a thick robe.

The man is positioned in the center of the square, rendered in etched lines. His right side is in shadow from light entering from the upper right, illuminating the left side of his face. His lips are closed, nose is slightly wide. His dark eyes glance slightly to the right, beyond the viewer. His dark curly hair blends into the texture of the thick dark robe as it peaks out from under the wide fur hat, tipped slightly to the left. Background is undefined, the paper color looks yellowed from age.
