A man in traveling clothes, his back to the viewer, talks to an elderly bearded innkeeper at the top of the stone steps under an arched entrance. One man helps an older man with a bandaged head, partially dressed, off the horse. Another young man holds the horse’s reins steady from the left. A man in profile leans out the window looking at the man coming off the horse. There’s a woman bent over a well on the right in the background, with suggestion of trees and landscape behind her. A dog squats in the lower right on the ground.
