M23575: Cover for "Les Courtes Joies"
PrintsTwo discreet images appear printed in black on respectively the left and right sides of an off white page. At left dark chalky marks show a scene of two riders silhouetted on a hill top in the distance. At upper left, the first rider is seen from directly behind. Short and heavily built he sits astride a short pony. Just to his right, a taller figure in profile facing left, holds a lance upright and rides a thin horse. On the right hand side is a scene of a woman slicing open a fish with a knife. She is shown standing behind a counter leaning toward us in three quarter view, a row of three fish lined up to the left of the one she is cutting. Touches of white highlight her sleeves and hands as well as her face, as she looks forward, open-mouthed.
