Descriptions Commentary Romare Bearden's work was shaped by personal and collective histories of African-American experience. This work's title emphasizes the cyclical regimentation of his subject's lives around labor in the local factory. The theme evokes the migration of many African Americans from the South to the North in search of greater social and economic opportunities and the ways in which their lives were transformed by the rhythms of urban industrial life.
