XIX siecle); In 1817 he painted at Valladolid his "Nun in the vaults of the inquisition" which Nagler says (recalls us with a shudder, to the remembrance of that frightful tribunal); This picture (now in the Musée Royale) and the "Death of Pliny" (in the Luxembourg) gave Forbin a European reputation; [Fivar?] Member Institute, Knight of Legion of Honor [etc. etc]; Trial of a nun in the Vaults of the Inquisition; Masterpiece of the Count Forbin; SW Reynolds, 13 Lond. 1780 fec.; A Masterpiece of the Mezzotint Art & the most interesting of his engrs.; Artist proof before all the better."
