Descriptions Description Obverse: Hawk wearing crown stands on dove; reverse; dog with bone in mouth looks at his reflection in water. 21st issue of Society of Medalists. The Fogg owns another cast of this medal, 1940.110, and there is a cast at the Smithsonian. Per the Inventory of American Art, obverse is based on the Aesop fable "The Kite, Hawk, and Pigeons."
