Descriptions

Description
Obverse: profile of a woman with wheat in her hair; reverse: flower and bees. 20th Issue of Society of Medalists. The Fogg owns another cast of this medal, 1939.253, and there is a cast at the Smithsonian. The medal is based upon the scene before the cell of Prospero, in Act 4 of Shakespeare's "The Tempest;" the inscription comes from the song of Ceres in this scene.
