Description
Obverse: Hawk wearing crown stands on dove; reverse; dog with bone in mouth looks at his reflection in water. 21st issue of Society of Medalists. The Fogg owns another cast of this medal, 1940.110, and there is a cast at the Smithsonian. Per the Inventory of American Art, obverse is based on the Aesop fable "The Kite, Hawk, and Pigeons." Reverse is based on the Aesop fable "A Dog and a Shadow."
