Chemical Composition: XRF analysis was undertaken on both golden and worn areas. The golden areas had significant gold and mercury present, showing they were mercury gilded. The worn area had high levels of copper, zinc, lead and tin, and trace levels of cadmium and silver, with significantly higher zinc than tin. This quaternary copper alloy is similar to the alloy used for BR 62.56 A & C and could be termed an impure brass if preferred. The zinc content is higher than that of BR60.44, which also lacks the trace cadmium found here. Kathy Eremin January 2013
