1942.191: Phaedra and Hippolytus
PaintingsIn profile facing left, a robed man with a dark beard and curly hair, sits in a chair on a dais, head bowed and staring straight ahead. A crested helmet, sword and shield lie next to him. His arm is around a dark haired woman with pale skin, seated next to him. She wears a white robe, clutches a sword in one hand, and sits turned toward us, a distraught expression on her face, as a woman leans in from behind her. At left, turning toward us, a fair skinned man looks downward, holding a bow, a pair of dogs at his feet, and animal skin over his shoulder. He extends one arm, hand up, toward the seated man.
