Descriptions

Description
Under a large canopy is Maharao Ram Singh II of Kota (r. 1828-1866), wearing a bright yellow robe (jama) and adorned with a halo. He leans against a large pink cylindrical pillow with a black shield in front of him. He gestures towards a male figure to his left, dressed in an English officer’s blue jacket and cap. Based on his distinct features, particularly his prominent nose, he has been identified as Officer George Bruce (G.B.) Malleson. Behind Malleson and facing the other direction is another English officer who remains unidentified. He rests his hand under his chin as he faces an Indian attendant, dressed in a blue robe and red turban, who carries a large black shield. On the left side of the image are two attendants carrying fly whisks and two noblemen, both carrying black shields. Rajput Style, Kota School.
