Descriptions

Description
The painting depicts Krishna and the eldest Pandava brother, Yudhishthira (one of the five brothers collectively known as the Pandava brothers, the heroes of the Indian epic Mahabharata) in the central square, discussing the Mahabharata, or the Great War. Around them, troops on horseback and elephantback get ready for the battle with the Kauravas, the evil cousins of the Pandavas. This folio is an illustrated manuscript of the tenth book of the Bhagavata Purana produced in Malwa. The verso of the folio contains the Sanskrit text of the Bhagavata Purana from chapter 74 written in Devanagari script. 1958.121 is another folio from the same manuscript. Rajput, Rajasthani, Malwa School.
