Descriptions

Description
Dress fabric panel with a polychromed brocaded repeat scene of a man in a tree picking fruit and giving it to a woman below carrying a fruit-filled basket, on a ground of ivory-coloured silk with a "liserée" (warp faced) pattern of meandering lace ribbons from which grow sprays of flowers. The surface is enriched with metallic yarns using several different techniques. The woven braid border added later. There are horizontal threads that are supplementary to the ground weave.
