381 Pair of Ornamental Plaques
Strongly calcified jade of two distinct colors; bone-white (a) and a warm ivory (b). The plaques have the shape of sheaves of six symmetrically arranged petal-like forms girt by a transverse groove band. On the front, the outlines of the petals are repeated by concentric incisions, thus created a relief effect. The backs are plain and smooth. Holes drilled from the back meet others drilled from the top and bottom edges to form five perforations in one case (a), and six in the other case (b). Eastern Chou, 6th or 5th century B.C.
