Catalogue entry no. 601a by Max Loehr:
601 Pair of Animal Figures
Translucent gray-green jade with whitish parallel streaks. Except for the form of their heads, the figures are of feline character. They are of plano-convex shape—as if they had been sawed apart. Their fore- and hindquarters are indicated in low relief on the rounded side, and by grooves on the flat side. The eyes—an unusual trait—are represented by conical perforations. Judged by whatever criteria, including the material, these figures seem alien to Shang and Chou traditions, and neither do they fit among Han jades; it thus seems preferable to leave their date open.
